From Joad To Corbyn – International Law under the League of Nations (1920) and the United Nations (1948)

In August 1918, Cyril Joad wrote this prize-winning essay, advocating a League of Nations – which was finally established in after WW1 in 1920 (and replaced by the United Nations after WW2 in 1948.

In August 2015, nearly 100 years later, Jeremy Corbyn said this – one month before becoming Labour leader:

“Let us say we will never again unnecessarily put our troops under fire and our country’s standing in the world at risk. Let us make it clear that Labour will never make the same mistake again, will never flout the United Nations and international law”
